Prophecy Sign #7: A seven year covenant signed with Israel

Sign #7:

A seven year covenant signed with Israel

Daniel 9:27 (NIV)
27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing [of the temple] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.

What it looks like

Anyone who takes Bible prophecy literally understands that a time of tribulation awaits the inhabitants of this earth.  Our Lord spoke of it in Matthew 24:21, "There will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now."  This time of tribulation is to be seven years (Daniel's 70th week) and is based on his prophetic vision in Daniel 9:24-27.  This passage explains that the coming antichrist will confirm a covenant with Israel and the many for one 'seven' year period and in the middle of the 'seven' he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.  For this reason, most prophecy teachers also are looking for the future Antichrist to begin Daniel's 70th week by signing a covenant with Israel and the many nations for seven years.

Every day we hear something about Middle East Peace talks, or lack thereof. Regardless, at some point they will be completed and this will be the first sign that we will see indicating the end times have begun. Daniel 9:27 tells us it will be a seven year covenant between the Antichrist and Israel. It may include the permission to rebuild the third temple in Israel. Here’s the problem; the 7 year covenant may not be as conspicuous as we might like. In other words, it may not be revealed to the world, until well after the fact. To say it another way, the covenant could have already been signed, but we have not yet been informed.

The sequence of events in Daniel 9:24-27, then, provides a step-by-step outline of God's prophetic timetable.  The seventieth week - the seven years remaining - will transpire in the end times.  But before this last "week" could take place, Israel needed to regain control of her Promised Land (which she did in 1948) and then the entire city of Jerusalem (which she did in 1967).  When will the seventieth week begin?  In His Olivet Discourse, Christ tells His disciples that "when you see all these things (things associated with the seventieth week), recognize that He (Christ) is near, right at the door.  Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass until all these things take place.  (Matthew 24:33,34).  'These things' referred to by Christ are the events that will occur during the seventieth week, not before, and they must take place before we can look for the return of Christ.  Therefore, the seventieth week has tremendous significance to all who are 'looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Christ Jesus' (Titus 2:13).

The covenant between Antichrist and Israel (Dan. 9:27). The terms of this covenant are not listed, but it is clear it will be a non-aggression pact, perhaps even a military alliance that will enable the Antichrist to gain power over the 10 kingdoms during the first 3 1/2 years of the 70th week (Dan. 7:23-24; 8:23-25; Rev. 17:8-17). It will include the protection of Israel in their national establishment and restoration and assure them at least temporary peace (Dan. 8:25; 9:27; 11:36-45). The length of the covenant is to be 7 years (Dan. 9:27). -Dake's Study Notes

A person commonly called the Antichrist will be responsible for the signing of a 7 year covenant or peace treaty with the nation Israel.  The agreement is the catalyst that will trigger the end times.  This seven year period is also called Daniel's 70th week.  This covenant probably will be made at the beginning of the 7 year period.  Whoever the Antichrist is, he will be a trusted advisor to Israel.  The following are some wonderful End Times Charts help us to better understand the timing of Daniel's 70th week and once the 7 year covenant is signed, what happens next.

This chart diagrams Daniel's 70th Week as described in Daniel 9:27

1 Thessalonians 5:2-3
2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

Many people will be deceived, thinking the 7 year covenant will give the Middle East "peace and security."

Jesus gave us an overview of six prophecy signs that will occur after the signing of the 7 year covenant and prior to His Second Coming. These signs will confirm if and when we are in the "end times." God only gives warnings when there is a danger. The danger we face is terrible deception by the Antichrist.

The chart below adds the timing of the Rapture, the seventh seal of Revelation 8, and the Day of the Lord to the first six seals of Revelation 6 and Matthew 24.

Sign #1 - The Antichrist will rise to power through diplomacy as he negotiates a seven year peace agreement with Israel.

Sign #2 - The Antichrist will take peace from the earth as he gains further power through world war.

Sign #3 - World war will lead to worldwide famine.  In order to buy or sell during this time, one will have to take "the mark of the beast."

Sign #4 - Worldwide war and famine will lead to widespread death.

Sign #5 - Widespread persecution and martyrdom of Jews and Christians.  Those who refuse to take the Mark of the Beast - 666, will be put to death.

Sign #6 - A great earthquake, the sun turns black, whole moon turns blood red, and the stars no longer shine as darkness envelops the earth.

Sign #7 - Jesus returns in a flash of supernatural light, sweeping across the heavens, illuminating the entire earth.

The Bible is clear.  Christians are to be looking for a seven-year peace accord that will be forged and confirmed by the coming Antichrist.  To be sure, the details and timing of these events are in God's hands, but we should be watching for the specific signs he has ordained to signify if we are a part of 'that generation' to see the Second Coming of Jesus.  Once the seven year covenant is signed and fulfilled, (along with the rebuilding of the Temple and the re-establishment of animal sacrifices), we should realize the final seven year period has begun.  These signs are a prelude of harder times to come but this should not cause us to be overly fearful.  We who know the Lord will need to help one another remember that God is radically committed to re-uniting with us, and the conclusion to this story is simply out of this world!

Revelation 3:11-12 (NIV)
11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.
12 Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.

The European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) is it is a mutual agreement between the E.U. and a host of neighboring nations. Israel (and the Palestinian Authority) is included in this agreement.

The E.U. has allowed each participating country to become a part of the E.U. culture and society. They can become as integrated into the E.U. structure as they desire, stopping just short of membership. But membership is a future option.

Peace with bordering nations and the elimination of nuclear weapons within participating countries are two key points of the core agreement.

Participating countries are to be considered for substantial E.U. financial assistance which started in the new budget term from 2007 to 2013. This new financial assistance plan is known as the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI).

The focus of the ENPI is to work with neighboring nations to develop their infrastructure and to serve as a reward for coming in line with E.U. objectives. It will also strengthen ties between the E.U. and its neighbors.

Some are asking if the ENPI could be the start of the seven-year tribulation period. Don't know for sure, but keep your eyes on this one!

According to the European Union's official site, "The objective of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is to share the benefits of the EU's 2004 enlargement with neighbouring countries. It is also designed to prevent the emergence of new dividing lines between the enlarged EU and its neighbours."

The ENPI Cross Border Cooperation concept is a challenge for all of us and a significant step forward towards establishing genuine and sustainable cooperation in regions along both sides of the EU's external land and sea borders.

In spring 2006, the Commission started the preparations for the CBC under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument for the period 2007-2013. The strategic framework for the EC support to these programmes is formed by the ENPI CBC Strategy Paper 2007-2013. The Strategy Paper identifies 15 ENPI CBC programmes with a total funding of 1,118.434 million € for the 7 year period. The programme content is based on four key objectives: economic and social development, common challenges, ensuring efficient and secure borders, people-to-people cooperation. The ENPI regulation which is the legal base for the programmes applies from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2013.

If the European Neighborhood Policy which began on January 1, 2007 is not the seven-year covenant prophesied by Daniel, then we should be keeping an eye on the upcoming peace talks. Perhaps another 7 year agreement is in the works.  The European Commission has proposed to promote the ENP policy in order to strengthen political, trade, economic and human rights agreements between the EU and nearby countries, including Israel.

Obama Says It's Time To Divide Jerusalem

Zechariah 8:7-8 (NIV) [7] This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west. [8] I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God."

Joel Rosenberg's Weblog.  May 20, 2009

I'm horrified by reports this morning that in his June 4th speech in Cairo, President Obama will say it is time to divide Jerusalem and make the holy city the capital of a Palestinian state.

No, Mr. President, it is not.
Jerusalem is and should be the eternal, undivided capital of the Jewish people and the Jewish state. Dividing Jerusalem will not make peace. Rather, it would send a message to every Radical Islamic jihadist around the world that Israel is weak, that the Jews won't even defend the sovereignty of their own capital, that there is "blood in the water," and that it is time to strike Israel and wipe her off the map. Dividing Jerusalem would trigger an apocalyptic war in the Middle East the likes of which the region has never seen. Already, the Radicals believe Israel is doomed to destruction. Hearing that the American President is now ready to apply intense pressure against the Israelis to divide their capital will only embolden the Radicals and convince them further that Allah is on their side, the wind is at their back, and they will soon triumph over the Jews and Christians.

While I am not surprised by where the President is headed, I am horrified nonetheless. Right at the moment when the U.S. and Israel need to be working with Arab states in unity against the Iranian nuclear threat, this White House is systematically turning against Israel. Despite all the smiles and boilerplate rhetoric from senior administration officials over the last few days that Prime Minister Netanyahu has been in town - promising to stand with Israel and maintain her security - what the administration is actually advancing in terms of policy is dangerous and destabilizing. They are playing with fire, and they must be publicly and peaceably challenged and resisted. READ MORE

Tzipi Livni, Israeli Foreign Minister and newly elected Kadima party chair Tzipi Livni is the Israelis' chief negotiator in the current peace talks with the Palestinians

In the News...  Associated Press.  Monday, September 22, 2008.

JERUSALEM - Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Monday received formal approval to form a new Israeli government, starting the clock on a 42-day period for putting together a new team and resuming Mideast peace negotiations.  Livni, 50, once an agent of the Mossad spy agency, has pledged to pursue peace with the Palestinians and Syria, following up negotiations started by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. She would be Israel's first female premier since 1974...  Read More  By Carolynne Wheeler in Jerusalem .  20 Sep 2008

Rafik Husseini, the top advisor to the Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, has told The Sunday Telegraph that Palestinian politicians may take the drastic step of disbanding the authority if a lasting agreement is not reached during the current peace negotiations.  Such a move would mark the end of the US-backed talks launched with much fanfare at Annapolis last November. and put day-to-day Palestinian governance back in Israeli hands, almost certainly igniting fresh violence in the process...  Read More

Donnie's Remarks...

This week there are so many news stories that could have prophetic significance it is hard to know where to begin.  Ultimately, the key prophecy story we should always keep our eyes on is Israel, God's time piece for the ages.  While it is true that an economic collapse in the United States would produce global effects, I am not sure exactly what it would mean prophetically.  You see, America is not mentioned directly anywhere in Bible prophecy.  We could speculate, but the fact remains we are not told specifically in scripture what to look for as it relates to our great country.  Not so with Israel.  It is unmistakably clear what we are to be looking for to discern whether or not the end-times have begun... a seven-year covenant with Israel and the surrounding nations will be the catalyst to start the 'fires' of Daniel's 70th week.  Today Israel finds herself immersed in political problems and chaos.  Pressure is on to sign a peace agreement.  On some future day, the Jewish people will believe that this covenant of peace will protect them from war with the surrounding nations.  In reality, this seven year covenant of death will mark the rise of the Antichrist and the great tribulation for the entire world.

Partial Peace Agreement Rejected

Assad ruled out any recognition of Israel before a peace deal. But "when there is a peace accord, of course there will be reciprocal recognition." Olmert’s Proposal was mainly said to be a five-year timetable

DAMASCUS, Syria - Syria's leader said Thursday he offered a proposal for peace with Israel but also refused to break off ties with Hezbolla and militant Palestinians — a key Israeli demand.  President Bashar Assad also said indirect negotiations with Israel were on hold until that country chooses a new prime minister and that direct talks would have to wait until a new U.S. president takes office.  Read More

The last round of the US-backed peace negotiations between Israel Prime Minister Olmert and PNA President Abbas was arranged in Jerusalem on 31 August 2008, Sunday.  The meeting was the first since Olmert announced that he would resign and the last one before he leaves the office. Consequently, Israeli and Palestinian officials on Sunday tried to reach any immediate peace agreement...  Israelis and Palestinians are engaged in peace talks since Camp David Accords (1978) but frequent meetings since then have made little progress on the core issues.   Read More

Donnie's Remarks...

What event initiates Daniel's 70th week?  It is a seven year peace agreement with Israel, unknowingly signed with the Antichrist.  The prophet Daniel predicts and details the prophetic time table for us;

Daniel 9:27 (NIV)
27 He (the Antichrist) will confirm a covenant (a peace agreement) with many (Israel and the surrounding nations) for one 'seven (year period - beginning the seventieth week of Daniel).'  In the middle of the 'seven (year period)' he (the Antichrist) will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing [of the future temple] he (the Antichrist) will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him" (at Armageddon).

Daniel 12:1 (NIV)
1 "At that time (the midpoint of the seventieth week) Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress (the Great Tribulation) such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then.

Speaking of those same days, the Lord Jesus gives us the same warning in His end-times discourse on the Mount of Olives;

Matthew 24:15-22 (NIV)
15 "So when you see standing in the holy place (in the future rebuilt temple) 'the abomination that causes desolation,' (the Antichrist) spoken of through the prophet Daniel--let the reader understand--
21 For then there will be great distress (Great Tribulation), unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again. 22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days (of Antichrist's persecution) will be shortened.

The prophet Isaiah calls this seven year peace agreement that the unbelieving nation of Israel makes with the Antichrist,  "a covenant with death."  (See Isaiah 28:15,18)  Today, we are witnessing a plethora of proposals for peace.  Soon, Israel, (and the majority of the world), is about to be deluded into thinking that this seven year covenant will protect them and give them peace and security.  The covenant with Israel will be broken by the Antichrist when he reveals his true identity at the midpoint of the seventieth week and begins the Great Tribulation against any and all who will not worship 'the beast or his image.'  These are definitely interesting days we are living in!
