Daniel's 70th Week PowerPoint

The Sign, by Robert Van Kampen

Robert Van Kampen writes:  "The sequence of events in Daniel 9:24-27, then, provides a step-by-step outline of God's prophetic timetable.  The seventieth week - the seven years remaining - will transpire in the end times.  But before this last "week" could take place, Israel needed to regain control of her Promised Land (which she did in 1948) and then the entire city of Jerusalem (which she did in 1967).  When will the seventieth week begin?  In His Olivet Discourse, Christ tells His disciples that "when you see all these things (things associated with the seventieth week), recognize that He (Christ) is near, right at the door.  Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass until all these things take place.  (Matthew 24:33,34).  'These things' referred to by Christ are the events that will occur during the seventieth week, not before, and they must take place before we can look for the return of Christ.  Therefore, the seventieth week has tremendous significance to all who are 'looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Christ Jesus' (Titus 2:13)." See Daniel's 70th Week

THE RISE OF THE ANTICHRIST The people of the ruler who will come (the Antichrist is identified with the people of the Roman empire), will destroy the city and the sanctuary (Following the death of the Messiah, a prince of the Roman people will come and will destroy the city and the temple. Dual Prophetic Fulfillment: Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed the first time in 70 AD under the rule of Titus. The destruction of Jerusalem will occur again in the future under the reign of Antichrist). The end (of Jerusalem and the temple) will come like a flood (An overwhelming army of the Roman empire, Antichrist): War will continue until the end (in the last days), and desolations (due to wars and other forms of destruction revealed in the Book of Revelation) have been decreed.

Daniel 9:27 He (the ruler of the Roman people who will come, Antichrist) will confirm a covenant with many (of the Jews of Israel, and perhaps the surrounding gentile nations) for one 'seven'
When will Daniel’s 70th week begin? The catalyst, which will trigger the beginning of Daniel’s 70th week, will be a 7-year covenant between Israel and the Antichrist. Again, Daniel’s 70th week will begin when the Antichrist signs a seven-year peace covenant with the nation Israel guaranteeing her protection and safety from the surrounding nations.

In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering (At the beginning of Daniel’s 70th week, the Antichrist will allow the Jews to rebuild the temple and re-institute the Mosaic sacrifices. After the first 3 ½ years are completed Antichrist will double-cross the Jewish people. He will break the covenant and all sacrifices in the rebuilt temple will be stopped). And on a wing of the temple he (the Antichrist, now empowered by Satan, will march into the rebuilt temple and declare himself to be God. See 2 Thess 2) will set up an abomination that causes desolation (this idolatrous image of the beast will be set up in the temple and be the key event causing the desolation of the temple and the destruction of Jerusalem. Jesus referred to this event in Mt 24:15.) until the end that is decreed is poured out on him." (Toward the end of Daniel’s 70th week, Jesus will return the second time at the Rapture of the Church. Ultimately, Antichrist will be defeated at Armageddon and be thrown into the Lake of fire.)

Daniel's Seventy Weeks

Daniel 9:24-27 (KJV)
24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
